Oshana is one of the 14 regions of Namibia . It has approx. 190,000 inhabitants (as of 2016) and, with an area of 5,290 km², is the smallest region in the country in terms of area, but with a considerable population. The capital of Oshana is Oshakati . Oshana is mostly flat, treeless and mostly dry as dust, although there was still a dense forest here 150 years ago. The region is dominated by the Oshana system with its Cuvelai wetland. This feeds Lake Oponono .

According to the 2011 census , 93.7 percent of the Oshivambo area's residents speak their primary language. Afrikaans follows with 1.1 percent. 0.1 percent of the population use German as their main language.
