The Oponono Lake ( English Lake Oponono ) is a lake in northern Namibia in the Oshana region . Together with the Etosha pan and the Cuvelai wetland, it forms part of the internationally recognized Ramsar wetland .
The Oponono is more of a " pan " (dry depression in the ground) than a lake, as it only carries water temporarily, provided it is fed by the Oshana system . The lake receives this inflow from the approximately 7,000 square kilometer system on average about twice over a period of three years. Up to 19 different species of fish can be found in the lake during flood time.
