The hero status ( English hero ) is a state honor in Namibia . This is awarded posthumously and can only be pronounced by the President .

Namibian heroes are entitled to a state funeral on the Heldenacker near Windhoek . Heroes' Day , always on August 26th, was declared an official holiday in Namibia in their honor .

definition

The honor of being a hero goes to those Namibians who have made a contribution to the freedom of the country, especially in the context of the Namibian struggle for independence . The National Honors Act, 2012 defines a hero or a heroine as "a person who has performed a heroic act in the public interest or an extraordinary contribution to Namibia and is awarded this honor by the President." A heroic act is defined as “an extraordinary act or the demonstration of particular bravery for the benefit of the Namibian people”.
