Immanuel Kauluma Elifas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Immanuel Kauluma Elifas (born January 1, 1934 , South West Africa ; † March 26, 2019 in Onandjokwe ) was a traditional leader in Namibia . He was king ( oshivambo Omukwaniilwa ) of the Ondonga , a clan of the Ovambo . For many years Elifas was chairman of the “National Council of Traditional Leaders”.

The royal palace is located in Onamungundo , while the traditional settlement area is in the east of the Etosha National Park around Namutoni .

Elifas last confirmed his great- grandchild Fillemon Shuumbwa Nangolo as his successor in 2017 . This decision was not without controversy, as his other great-grandchild Oscar Sheehama , who was supported by Queen Cecila, was also considered to be his successor. He had already named Nangolo as his successor on September 20, 2002, which was last communicated to the Namibian government on June 2, 2012. Nevertheless, there were lasting rifts within the clan, which were also fought in court.

Elifas was one of the longest-serving traditional leaders in Namibia with a 44-year tenure.
