Kings of Ovambo
The kings of the Ovambo are the traditional leaders ( English Traditional Leaders ) of the tribe of the Ovambo in Namibia and still carry a social and political role in the country's north.
Legal basis
According to the Namibian Constitution of 1990, traditional leaders, tribal and clan heads, as well as traditionally determined or democratically elected leaders, are given a permanent place in the Namibian political system . This takes into account the multicultural and multi-layered society of the country.
The constitution provides for the title of Chief ( German Chef ) and Senior Headman (oldest leader) for traditional leaders . The traditional designation as king can be used.

Ondonga
The Ondonga are a clan of the Ovambo in Namibia. The traditional title is Omukwaniilwa (rarely referred to as Ohamba ). The king's seat is the respective homestead of the king, since April 2019 Onambango not far from Ondangwa . At the end of February 2020 it was announced that Onambango would receive a palace for all future kings.
According to the Ondonga tradition, the heir to the throne is always the next-eldest brother of the king and, in the absence of such, the eldest nephew, i.e. H. the sister's eldest son. The father's royal status is not inheritable. The maternal line is decisive. The king's sons have no place in the line of succession.
