Traditional leaders of the San

Traditional leaders of the San ( English Traditional Leaders ) describes as a collective term both historical leaders of the San , as well as leaders of the homeland Bushmanland of South West Africa and also the traditional leaders of the small ethnic minority of the San in today's Namibia .

Legal basis

According to the Namibian Constitution of 1990, traditional leaders, tribal and clan heads, as well as traditionally determined or democratically elected leaders, are given a permanent place in the Namibian political system . This takes into account the multicultural and multi-layered society of the country. You are the chairman of the traditional administrations .

The constitution provides for the title of chief (in German boss) and senior headman (oldest leader) for traditional leaders . The traditional title can be used, but this does not result in any special rights.

Juǀ'Hoansi

The Juǀ'Hoansi are an ethnic group of the San in Namibia. Its seat is Nyae Nyae . The traditional title is ǂH'Ahai or ǁ'Aiha .

ǂKao ǁAesi

The ǂKao ǁAesi are based on the state farm Skoonheid north of Gobabis.

ǃKung

The ǃKung are an ethnic group of the San in Namibia. It is based in the Omatako Valley . The traditional title is ǁ'Aiha (or Gaoxa ).

Haiǁom

The Haiǁom are an ethnic group of the San in Namibia. Its seat is the city of Outjo in the Kunene region . Their traditional settlement area is in today's Etosha National Park . The traditional title is Gaob .

ǃXoo

The ǃXóõ are a clan of the San in the extreme southeast of Namibia on the borders with Botswana and South Africa . They speak the language of the same name , also known as Taa . The traditional title is Gaoxaǀagi . The head office is in Corridor 17 .
