The University of Delhi ( Hindi दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय IAST Dillī viśvavidyālay ) is a state university in Delhi in northern India . With more than 200,000 students, it is one of the largest universities in the world. Delhi University is particularly well known for research and teaching in Indian classical music, the sciences, languages, and economics. The University's visitor is the President of India , the University's Chancellor is the Vice-President of India .

The university was founded in 1922 by the British Indian government .
