PNC Financial Services Group ( PNC ) is a US company based in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . The company is listed on the S&P 500 stock index and had total assets of $ 358 billion as of the end of 2015 .

PNC offers various types of financial services to its clients. In the private customer business, the company has around five million customers and is represented with 2,600 branches in 19 US states as well as in Washington, DC . PNC also operates as an asset manager and offers its own financial products. Other focal points include a. lending business with corporate customers, custodian bank activities and securities lending .

history

The company was founded in 1852 as the Pittsburgh Trust and Savings Company . Today's company PNC goes back to the two banks Pittsburgh National Corporation and Provident National Corporation , which merged in 1982 in what was then the largest bank merger in US history to form PNC Financial Corporation . At the end of 2008, the company had around 59,600 employees; at the end of 2015, despite the increase in the number of branches, it was only around 52,500. A subsidiary is the PNC Bank ; the company also owns around a quarter of the fund management company BlackRock . In May 2020 the company announced that it wanted to sell this stake.
