Adam Braz (born June 7, 1981 in Montreal ) is a former Canadian football player .
Club career
Braz played at youth level for AS Jean-Talon Rosemont in the Quebec Elite Soccer League and was nominated several times at Canadian championships for the Quebec national team. In the age groups U-15, U-17 and U-18 he won a total of two gold and one silver medal in the national championships with Quebec.
After playing for the Fairfield Stags, the college team at Fairfield University , in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference of the NCAA Division I from 1999 to 2001 , the defender signed his first professional contract with Montreal Impact in the USL A-League in 2002 . After his first professional season, he completed a trial training session at the Swedish second division club Västerås SK at the end of the year and was committed to the 2003 season.
Braz returned to Canada in 2004 and continued his career with Montreal. In 2004 he won the championship with Impact with a 2-0 final win over Seattle Sounders . After two more seasons as a regular player, in which one failed as a regular season champion in the play-off semifinals, he was signed for the 2007 season by the newly formed Canadian MLS team Toronto FC . After mixed performances for Toronto he was waxed at the end of the season and signed again a short time later with Montreal Impact.
In 2008 he won the Canadian Championship with the club , the Canadian qualifying tournament for the CONCACAF Champions League, and was the first Canadian team ever to take part in the main round of a CONCACAF competition. There they placed in the group stage tied behind the Mexican representative and eventual winner CF Atlante in second place and thus moved into the quarter-finals, in which Santos Laguna was followed by a 2-0 home win and a 2-1 half-time lead in the second leg lost two goals in stoppage time with 2: 5 and was eliminated from the tournament. In 2009, Braz won the second championship in the USL, after winning two wins in the Canadian final against the Vancouver Whitecaps .
Braz announced his retirement from professional football on March 14, 2011 and took over the position of team manager at Montreal Impact.
National team
Braz played several times for the Canadian U-20 selection between 1998 and 2002 . In 1998 he failed with the team in the CONCACAF qualification for the Junior World Cup in 1999 , in 2001 he was again in the squad for the U-20 qualifying round, but was not used during the successful qualification and missed participation in the Junior World Cup 2001 because of a knee injury. In 2004 he formed with Victor Oppong and Chris Pozniak the Canadian defensive line-up in the Olympic qualifying tournament (U-23), but the team was eliminated from the group stage without winning a point.
The central defender made his international debut in the Canadian senior team on January 18, 2004 in a friendly against Barbados . Braz came to his only competitive games for Canada in 2005 as part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup , when he and Josh Simpson played the full-backs. Canada was eliminated in the preliminary round after losing to Costa Rica and the USA. Two years later he was part of the Canadian squad again when he reached the semi-finals in the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup , but remained in the team around the central defender duo Richard Hastings and André Hainault and has not made any further appearances in the national team since then.
