Christopher "Chris" Pozniak (* 10. January 1981 in Krakow , Poland as Krzysztof Poźniak ) is a former Canadian football player .

Career

Born in Poland in 1990 Pozniak emigrated to Canada where he played in his youth at the Scarborough High School before 1998 USL College Draft by the Toronto Lynx in the 3rd round drafted was. In 1999 he began his professional career in the USL A-League with this club . In 2001 he moved to the Swedish first division club Örebro SK , for which he made 45 appearances by the end of 2003. Between 2004 and 2006 he played for the Norwegian club FK Haugesund in the country's second and third division.

In 2007 Pozniak returned to North America and signed a contract with the newly formed MLS team Toronto FC . After 22 appearances in his first MLS season, he was selected in the MLS Expansion Draft 2007 by the re-established San José Earthquakes and given to CD Chivas USA shortly before the start of the season in exchange for John Cunliffe . After only four league appearances, he was dismissed by Chivas and Pozniak briefly joined the Vancouver Whitecaps before venturing again to Europe. At the Scottish second division club FC Dundee Pozniak played on the opening match day against Ross County as a test player and received a one-year contract a short time later.

In the summer of 2009 he returned to the Whitecaps.

National team

Pozniak played 35 games between 1998 and 2004 for the Canadian U-20 and U-23 national teams . With the U-20 selection, he took part in the 2001 Junior World Cup in Argentina and was used in all three games in the preliminary round of the Canadians. With the U-23 he played in the Pan American Games in 1999 , the Jeux de la Francophonie in 2001 and the CONCACAF Olympic qualification in 2004.

Pozniak was a member of the national team for the first time in 2002 and took part in the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup without having played an international role . In the first group game against Haiti, he made his debut for the Canadian senior team as a substitute shortly before the end of the game , and he also played one half in the game for third place against South Korea. He was part of the Canadian squad at the subsequent CONCACAF championships in 2003 , 2005 and 2007 and reached the semi-finals again in 2007.

Coaching career

On April 29, 2015 Pozniak took over the Canadian fourth division club KW United FC. Together with the team he achieved 11 wins and 2 losses in the regular season. That qualified for the play-offs, the final of which could be won.

On February 1, 2016, he moved to Toronto FC II as an assistant coach.
