The Toronto Lynx Soccer Club is a Canadian soccer franchise based in Toronto . The team was founded in 1997 and plays in the USL Premier Development League , the fourth highest division in North American football.
history
The club started in 1997 in the A-League, the second highest division at the time. In the very first season, the club set a league record with ten wins in a row. In 2000, the Lynx missed the final by a 1-0 defeat in the Conference Final against the Rochester Raging Rhinos .
On October 10, 2006, the club announced its voluntary withdrawal from the USL First Division to the USL Premier Development League , where the club was divided into the Great Lakes Division of the Central Conference. The reasons for this were the low attendance figures (the Lynx had the lowest average attendance in the league) and the new competition from the Major League Soccer club Toronto FC .
