David Loebsack

David Wayne Loebsack (born December 23, 1952 in Sioux City , Iowa ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party . Since 2007 he has represented Southeast Iowa in the United States House of Representatives .

Family, education and work

Loebsack attended East High School in Sioux City until 1970 . He then studied political science at Iowa State University until 1974 and then philosophy at the University of California at Davis . After finishing his studies Loebsack taught political science at Cornell College in Mount Vernon .

Loebsack is married and lives privately in Mount Vernon.

Political career

In the 2006 election , Loebsack was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in Iowa's second congressional electoral district. There he stepped on January 3, 2007 to succeed Republican Jim Leach , whom he had defeated in the election with 51 percent of the vote. He has been re-elected since then and only had a pre-election challenge from a fellow party member in 2012. In April 2019, he announced that he would not run again in the 2020 election. Among others, the Democrat Rita Hart , who took office as Vice-Governor in 2018 , and the former Republican Congressman from Illinois Bobby Schilling have applied to succeed him . Loebsack's mandate ends with the 116th Congress on January 3, 2021.

Loebsack was temporarily a member of the Armed Forces Committee and the Education and Labor Committee, as well as two sub-committees each.

Positions

As an MP for the agricultural state of Iowa, David Loebsack stands up for the interests of farmers. He is in favor of improving internal security and an environmentally friendly policy.
