Isaac S. Struble

Isaac S. Struble (born November 3, 1843 in Fredericksburg , Virginia , †  February 17, 1913 in Le Mars , Iowa ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1891 he represented the state of Iowa in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Isaac Struble came to Johnson County , Iowa, with his parents at an early age . There he attended public schools. Between 1862 and 1865 he took part in the Civil War as a soldier in an Iowa infantry unit . He was involved in several battles in which he was wounded. After the war Struble worked in 1866 for a short time as an accountant in St. Louis ( Missouri ). After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1870, he began to practice in his new profession in Polo (Illinois). In 1872 he moved to Le Mars, Iowa. There he worked as a lawyer with his older brother James.

Politically, Struble was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington in the newly created eleventh constituency of Iowa . There he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1883. After three re-elections he was able to complete four consecutive terms in Congress by March 3, 1891 . Between 1889 and 1891 he was chairman of the committee that dealt with the US territories. In 1890 he was no longer nominated by his party. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. Isaac Struble had been married to Adelaide Stone since 1884; the couple had five children. Struble died in Le Mars in February 1913 and was buried there.
