Miami Shores is a municipality in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 10,493 inhabitants (as of 2010).

geography

Miami Shores is located on Biscayne Bay and borders Miami directly to the north . Surrounding communities are El Portal , Biscayne Park , North Miami , Miami Beach, and North Bay Village .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 10,493 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 3935 households. The population density was 1639.5 inh / km². 68.1% of the population identified themselves as whites , 23.8% as African American , 0.3% as Indians and 2.6% as Asian Americans . 2.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.8% to several ethnic groups. 30.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010, children under the age of 18 lived in 33.4% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 25.8% of all households. 65.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.65 people and the average family size was 3.26 people.

25.7% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 24.4% were 20 to 39 years old, 32.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 40 years. 49.0% of the population were male and 51.0% were female.

The median annual income was $ 81,885, with 6.9% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 61.50% of the population, 25.27% spoke Spanish and 13.23% spoke another language.

US Highway 1 and Florida State Roads 5 , 915 and 932 run through Miami Shores . Interstate 95 also passes the community immediately to the west . In addition, the Florida East Coast Railway runs through the community. The nearest airports are Opa-locka Executive Airport (national, 10 km away) and Miami International Airport (14 km).

The crime rate in 2010 was 440 points (US average: 266 points) in the average range. There were 30 robberies, 16 personal injuries, 146 break-ins, 454 thefts and 31 car thefts.
