West Little River is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida .

geography

West Little River is directly adjacent to the communities of Hialeah , El Portal, and Miami . Interstate 95 , US Highway 441 ( SR 7 ) and Florida State Roads 9 , 932 and 934 cross or touch the CDP . West Little River has a connection to the Miami-Dade Metrorail via the Northside station in the direction of Kendall (terminus Dadeland South ) and Medley (terminus Palmetto ). At the nearby transfer station you can change between the Metrorail and the Tri-Rail .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 34,699 inhabitants were distributed over 10,510 households. The population density was 2915.9 inh / km². 42.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 49.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.2% as Asian Americans . 4.9% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 50.6% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 35.6% of all households lived in 40.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 74.9% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.35 people and the average family size was 3.70 people.

26.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 26.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 19.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 49.9% of the population were male and 50.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 30,565, with 26.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 53.62% of the population, 41.21% spoke Spanish and 5.17% had another mother tongue.
