Homestead is a city in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 60,512 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Homestead is located approximately 22 miles southwest of Miami and borders the city of Florida City .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 60,512 inhabitants were distributed over 23,419 households. The population density was 1626.7 inh / km². 66.9% of the population were whites, 20.4% African American , 0.4% Native American, and 1.2% Asian Americans . 7.4% were members of other races and 3.8% of different races. 62.9% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 49.8% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 15.5% of all households. 74.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.16 and the average family size was 3.50.

33.9% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 35.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 21.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 9.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 29 years. 50.4% of the population were male and 49.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 38,724, with 29.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 51.10% of the population, 43.22% spoke Spanish and 5.68% had another mother tongue.
