Karl Friedrich Nowak
Karl Friedrich Nowak (born January 1, 1882 in Vienna , † December 17, 1932 in Berlin ) was an Austrian journalist , author and publisher.
Live and act
Nowak studied law in Vienna between 1900 and 1903 . However, he soon became a journalist. He reported on art and culture for various newspapers, first in Vienna, then in Cologne ( Kölnische Zeitung ) and Berlin. During the First World War he was a war correspondent in the Austro-Hungarian war press office . In 1916 he was admitted to Field Marshal Franz Conrad von Hötzendorf .
On July 5, 1917, Nowak was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order with war decorations in recognition of his services as a war correspondent .
After the war he published several books on the warfare of the Central Powers. In it he emphasized Conrad's foresight, which led to journalistic disputes.
Nowak founded the Verlag für Kulturpolitik in Berlin , in which he published memoirs by the military, diplomats and politicians in Germany and Austria. The former German Emperor Wilhelm II gave him insight into archive material. He was unable to complete larger works such as a book about the German Empire after 1870 and the correspondence of Field Marshal Conrad.
The Austrian Biographical Lexicon judges that Nowak's works have "source value to this day" and occupy a "place in the history of journalism".
