Surfside is a city in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 5744 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Surfside is located on an island between Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean , about three miles northeast of Miami as the crow flies . Adjacent communities are Bal Harbor , Bay Harbor Islands , Indian Creek, and Miami Beach .

history
In 1979, Surfside's 95th Street was renamed Isaac Singer Boulevard to commemorate the Yiddish writer Isaac Bashevis Singer , who lived on this street from 1977 until his death in 1991.
On the night of June 24, 2021, a 12-story residential building partially collapsed. 11 dead had been recovered by June 28, 2021.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 5744 inhabitants were distributed among 3890 households. The population density was 4418.5 inh / km². 94.6% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.3% as African-Americans , 0.1% as Indians and 1.3% as Asian Americans . 1.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.7% to several ethnic groups. 46.5% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 40.1% of all households lived in 23.3% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 58.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without children or one parent with at least one child). The average household size was 2.20 people and the average family size was 2.87 people.
20.0% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.8% were 40 to 59 years old, and 31.4% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 46 years. 47.1% of the population were male and 52.9% were female.
The median annual income was $ 76,741, with 15.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 42.40% of the population, 49.10% spoke Spanish and 8.50% spoke another language.
