The Opa-locka Executive Airport is a major national airport in the small town of Opa-locka ( City ) in Miami-Dade County in Florida .
Its main purpose is to relieve the nearby Miami Airport , which is why the airport is mainly served by smaller aircraft in national traffic. It also serves as an Air / Sea Rescue Station for the US Coast Guard .
Incidents
- On February 8, 2019, a Convair CV-340 / C-131B of Conquest Air Cargo ( aircraft registration number (N145GT) ) broke on a cargo flight from Nassau Airport ( Bahamas ) to Opa-Locka Airport while attempting to ditch after a continuous loss of altitude. The machine hit the sea about 20 kilometers east of the Bay Harbor Islands district of Miami ( Florida ), about 37 kilometers from the destination airport Opa-Locka. The captain was killed and the first officer suffered serious injuries, but could still be questioned about how the accident happened.
