Tamiami is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 55,271 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Tamiami borders the city of Sweetwater to the east and is about 15 km west of Miami . The CDP is crossed and tangent to the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 , SR 90 ), which gives it its name , and Florida State Roads 821  ( Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike , toll) and 836 ( Dolphin Expressway , toll).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 55,271 inhabitants were distributed over 16,875 households. The population density was 2909 inhabitants / km². 94.5% of the population identified themselves as white , 1.3% as African American , 0.1% as Native American and 0.7% as Asian Americans . 2.0% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.3% to several ethnic groups. 92.7% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 39.8% of all households and people aged 65 or over lived in 39.0% of all households. 84.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.29 people and the average family size was 3.44 people.

19.3% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 24.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 22.8% were 60 years or older. The mean age was 42 years. 47.2% of the population were male and 52.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 50,421, with 13.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 6.99% of the population, 92.40% spoke Spanish and 0.61% had another mother tongue.
