Palmetto Estates is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 13,535 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Palmetto Estates is about 15 km southwest of Miami . The CDP is affected by Florida State Road 821 ( Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike , toll), US Highway 1 and Florida State Road 992 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 13,535 inhabitants were distributed over 4,236 households. The population density was 2460.9 inh / km². 47.4% of the population identified themselves as whites , 41.8% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 3.3% as Asian Americans . 3.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 4.0% to several ethnic groups. 43.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 28.4% of all households lived in 43.7% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 81.8% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.37 people and the average family size was 3.62 people.

27.1% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 25.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 30.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.9% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 38 years. 48.3% of the population were male and 51.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 63,412, with 13.5% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 65.94% of the population, 29.76% spoke Spanish and 4.30% had another mother tongue.
