South Miami is a city in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 11,657 inhabitants (as of 2010).

South Miami is located approximately 3 miles southwest of Miami and is bordered by the parishes of Coral Gables and Pinecrest .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 11,657 inhabitants were distributed over 5,174 households. The population density was 1942.8 inh / km². 75.1% of the population identified themselves as whites, 17.0% as African-Americans , 0.3% as Indians and 3.9% as Asian Americans . 1.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.0% to several ethnic groups. 43.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.6% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 24.8% of all households. 56.0% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.46 people and the average family size was 3.16 people.
23.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 31.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.7% were 40 to 59 years old, and 17.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 37 years. 49.1% of the population were male and 50.9% were female.
The median annual income was $ 63,289, with 14.7% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 59.69% of the population, 37.45% spoke Spanish and 2.86% had another mother tongue.

The Hervey Allen Study and the Arden "Doc" Thomas House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .
traffic
US Highway 1 and Florida State Roads 5 , 959 , 976 and 986 run through the city . South Miami also has a station on the Miami-Dade Metrorail for downtown Miami and the airport. The Miami airport is located 9 kilometers north of the city.
crime
The crime rate in 2010 was 560 points (US average: 266 points) in the high range. There were three murders, two rapes, 33 robberies, 50 assaults, 126 break-ins, 668 thefts, 26 car thefts and one arson.
