Pinewood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 16,520 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Pinewood is directly adjacent to the El Portal and North Miami communities and is approximately 3 miles north of Miami . Interstate 95 , US Highway 441 ( SR 7 ) and Florida State Roads 924 and 932 cross or touch the CDP .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 16,520 inhabitants were distributed over 5,436 households. The population density was 3754.5 inh / km². 17.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 75.3% as African American , 0.2% as Indians and 0.5% as Asian Americans . 3.7% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 22.8% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 there were children under the age of 18 in 43.4% of all households and persons aged at least 65 years in 27.1% of all households. 72.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.21 people and the average family size was 3.74 people.

29.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.6% were 40 to 59 years old, and 16.8% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 33 years. 48.2% of the population were male and 51.8% were female.

The median annual income was $ 28,987, with 34.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 47.40% of the population, 28.93% spoke Haitian, and 23.67% had another mother tongue.
