Ojus is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 18,036 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Ojus borders the cities of Hallandale Beach ( Broward County ), Aventura and North Miami Beach and is about 15 km north of Miami . Interstate 95 , US Highway 1 and Florida State Road 860 cross or touch the CDP .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the 18,036 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 8,008 households. The population density was 2505.0 inh / km². 81.2% of the population identified themselves as whites , 10.1% as African-Americans , 0.1% as Indians, and 2.1% as Asian Americans . 3.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.9% to several ethnic groups. 44.2% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 31.8% of all households and persons aged 65 or over lived in 28.0% of all households. 65.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.51 people and the average family size was 3.09 people.

24.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.5% were 20 to 39 years old, 31.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 21.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 42 years. 47.4% of the population were male and 52.6% were female.

The median annual income was $ 48,995, with 16.1% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 47.43% of the population, 32.71% spoke Spanish and 19.86% had another mother tongue.
