Westchester is a census-designated place (CDP) in Miami-Dade County in the US state of Florida with 29,862 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Westchester is about 3 miles west of Miami . The CDP is crossed or affected by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 , SR 90 ) and the Florida State Roads 826 ( Palmetto Expressway ), 973 and 976 .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 29,862 inhabitants were distributed over 9,621 households. The population density was 2,871.3 inh / km². 95.7% of the population identified themselves as whites , 1.2% as African American , 0.1% as Indians and 0.4% as Asian Americans . 1.4% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 1.2% to several ethnic groups. 91.1% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 51.3% of all households lived in 33.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 79.1% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 3.11 people and the average family size was 3.32 people.

19.7% of the population were younger than 20 years, 23.0% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.4% were 40 to 59 years old, and 30.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 45 years. 47.3% of the population were male and 52.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 44,688, with 13.3% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the first language of 10.79% of the population, 88.82% spoke Spanish and 0.40% had another mother tongue.
