Richard C. Thomas

Richard C. Thomas (born May 3, 1937 in Maine , † November 2, 1991 ) was an American politician who was Secretary of State of Vermont from 1969 to 1977 .

Life

Richard C. Thomas was born in Maine to Orin and Amelia Thomas. The family moved to Rutland , Vermont , where Thomas grew up. In 1959 he graduated at Middlebury College and then attended for one year the Georgetown University to law study. He then worked from 1963 to 1965 for Congressman Winston L. Prouty . He organized the election campaign for Prouty, was press spokesman and research assistant.

Thomas was a member of the Vermont sister party of the Republican Party and from 1965 to 1968 Secretary of the Vermont Republican State Committee, in 1968 also Assistant Clerk in the Vermont House of Representatives .

From 1969 to 1977 he won the election of Secretary of State four times. However, he lost the election in 1976 to James A. Guest . He then worked for the Federal Election Commission as director of state relations.

Richard C. Thomas died on November 2, 1991.
