Harry H. Cooley

Harry H. Cooley (born November 13, 1893 in Georgia , Vermont , † 1986 ) was an American farmer and politician who was Secretary of State of Vermont from 1965 to 1969 .

Life

Harry H. Cooley was born in Georgia, Vermont. He studied agriculture and worked as a farmer and agriculture teacher. Cooley lived in Randolph and was active in local politics. He was Supervisor of the White River Soil Conservation District from 1941 to 1958 and President of the White River Dairy Cooperative from 1950 to 1960. For Randolph, he was a member of the Democratic Party in the Vermont House of Representatives in 1959 . From 1965 to 1969 he was Secretary of State of Vermont. He lost the 1969 election to Republican Richard C. Thomas .

Cooley was married to Gertrude Small Cooley. The couple had five children. He died in the fall of 1986.
