Frederick G. Fleetwood
Frederick Gleed Fleetwood (born September 27, 1868 in St. Johnsbury , Vermont , † January 28, 1938 in Morrisville , Vermont) was an American politician . Between 1923 and 1925 he represented the first constituency of the state of Vermont in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Frederick Fleetwood attended the public schools of his home country until 1886. He then studied at the University of Vermont and then until 1891 at Harvard University . In 1893 and 1894 he was a secretary on the Vermont Law Revision Commission. After studying law and being admitted to the bar in 1894, he began practicing his new profession in Morrisville that same year. Between 1896 and 1898, Fleetwood was a prosecutor in Lamoille County . At the same time he was council clerk and treasurer in Morrisville from 1896 to 1900.
Fleetwood was a member of the Republican Party . Between 1900 and 1902 he was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives , and from 1902 to 1908 he was Secretary of State, the executive officer of the Vermont government. At the same time he was also his state's insurance commissioner. From 1917 to 1919 he was again Secretary of State .
In 1922, Fleetwood was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the First District of Vermont . There he took over from Frank L. Greene on March 4, 1923 . But since he renounced another candidacy for the elections of 1924, he could only complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1925 . After his tenure in Congress, Fleetwood retired from politics. He went back to work as a lawyer and also became involved in banking. He died in January 1938 in his hometown of Morrisville.
