Porter Hinman Dale (born March 1, 1867 in Island Pond , Vermont , †  October 6, 1933 in Westmore , Vermont) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Vermont in both chambers of Congress .

Early years and political advancement

Porter Dale attended the public schools in his hometown and later continued his education at Eastman Business College in Poughkeepsie . He then studied in Philadelphia and Boston ; he was also taught acting for two years. After subsequently working as a teacher in Waterbury and Lewiston , Dale finally studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1896, after which he began practicing law in Island Pond.

Between 1897 and 1910, Dale served as Island Pond's assistant tax collector. He was then appointed a judge in the Brighton City Court . His political career began in 1910 with membership in the Vermont Senate , of which he was a member until 1914. Dale also served in the state militia and served as a colonel on the Vermont governor's staff . He was also active as a businessman in various economic sectors.

In Congress

From March 4, 1915, Porter Dale represented the 2nd  Congressional District of Vermont in the United States House of Representatives . He was confirmed several times and remained in this Chamber of Parliament until August 11, 1923, before he resigned his seat to run for the US Senate . There the tenure of William P. Dillingham, who died on July 11th of the same year, had to be ended. Dale won the by-election and entered the Senate on November 6, 1923. Dillingham's original term ended March 3, 1927; however, Dale won electoral approval not only in 1926 but also in 1932.

However, shortly after beginning his third term of his own, Porter Dale died in his summer resort Westmore. During his time in the Senate, among other things, he was chairman of the Committee on Civil Service . He was buried in his hometown Island Pond.
