Brighton is a town in Essex County in the US state of Vermont . At the last census in 2010, it had a total of 1222 inhabitants. It is part of the Berlin Micropolitan Statistical Area .

Geographical location
Brighton is in the northwest of Essex County. The center of the town is a watershed . The source of the East Branch Passumpsic River is in the area of the town. He leaves her in a southerly direction. The Clyde River also rises in the area of the town, it leaves it in a westerly direction and the Nulhegan River leaves it in an easterly direction. The largest lake is the Island Pond in the center a little to the east, in Brighton State Park is the Spectacle Pond . Another large lake is McConell Pond in the northeast . history
The first grant to Brighton was given under the name Gilead in 1780. Since the group of beneficiaries did not pay the fees for the grant, a second grant was proclaimed on August 23, 1781, with an area of 23,970 acres (about 97 km²) Joseph Nightingale and other settlers received this grant under the name Random . The settlement started in 1823, the first settler was Enos Bishop. In March 1832 the constituent meeting of the town took place. On November 3, 1832, the name was changed to Brighton.
