history
Warner's Grant was issued on November 29, 1791. The Essex County area was given to Hester Warner without any further conditions. The grant comprised 2000 acres (810 hectares ) of land, which, however, was and is inaccessible and undeveloped. Hester Warner was the widow of Seth Warner , a colonel in the American Revolutionary War who was previously a captain of the Green Mountain Boys . He died a honored officer, leaving behind a widow and three children. Widow Hester Warner petitioned the Vermont Legislature for a grant in support of her children and herself. This was complied with, she was awarded a grant in the size of 2000 Arcre, but it took three years until a still free piece of land in the size of 2000 was found and this could be officially measured and awarded to her.
