East Haven is a town in Essex County in the US state of Vermont . At the last census in 2010 it had a total of 290 inhabitants. It is part of the Berlin Micropolitan Statistical Area .

Geographical location

East Haven is in west Essex County. The Passumpsic River flows through the western part of the town in a north-south direction. The Moose River , a tributary of the Passumpsic River, has its source in the central area of ​​the town and flows south. There are no lakes in the town area. The surface is hilly, the highest point is the 1045 m high East Mountain .

Center of East Haven

The Grant for East Haven was awarded on October 22, 1790 by the Vermont Republic, as were several other grants, to a group led by Timothy Andrews. Andrews, a carpenter, built and operated an inn in his hometown of East Haven , Connecticut . That's why he named the area East Haven after his hometown. Andrews never lived in Vermont, but he died in Vermont while visiting his possessions.

A forest railway was in operation in East Haven from 1882 to 1918 .

In the center of town is the disused Lyndonville Air Force Station , a radar surveillance station on Radar Road. Allegedly, shortly before the alleged alien abduction of Betty and Barney Hill , this radar station captured the object observed by the Hills.

The North Country Hospital & Health Care in Newport is the closest hospital to the town's residents.

East Haven is part of the Caledonia North Supervisory Union with Burke, Lyndon, Newark and Sutton .

In East Haven there is no school and no other infrastructural facilities besides the Town Hall. These are available in neighboring communities. The nearest library is in Burke.
