Lemington is in northeast Essex County. The Connecticut River forms the eastern border with New Hampshire , several smaller tributaries of the Connecticut River such as the Willard Stream in the north drain the area of ​​the town. The Grant for Lemington was given on June 29, 1762 with an area of ​​23,040 acres (about 93 km²) as one of the New Hampshire Grants by Benning Wentworth . Like several others, Samuel Averill from Connecticut received the grant. Another grant, also named after him, is the neighboring town of Averill. How the name of the town Lemington came about is unclear. The settlement took place mainly near the Connecticut River.

On the western side, Vermont State Route 102 runs from Canaan in the north to Brunswick in the south. There are few other streets in the town area. On the eastern side of the Connecticut River, US Highway 2 runs through Coös County in New Hampshire in a northerly direction.
