Frank L. Greene
Frank Lester Greene (born February 10, 1870 in St. Albans , Franklin County , Vermont , † December 17, 1930 ibid) was an American politician ( Republican Party ) who represented the state of Vermont in both chambers of the US Congress .
Life
Frank Greene attended public schools and began working for the Central Vermont Railway as a teenager . In 1888 he joined the Vermont National Guard , from which he resigned as captain in 1900 . In this rank he also fought as the commander of an infantry company he had recruited during the Spanish-American War . After retiring from the National Guard, he served as a colonel on the governor's staff of Vermont.
From 1891 to 1912 Greene was also a reporter and later editor of the St. Albans Daily Messenger . Between 1904 and 1905 he was president of the Vermont Press Association. He was later from 1917 to 1923 a member of the board of regents of the Smithsonian Institution .
Political career
In 1908 Frank Greene was a delegate to the Vermont Constitutional Convention. His first mandate as a member of parliament he entered on July 30, 1912 after the election in the United States House of Representatives , where he succeeded the late David J. Foster . After being re-elected several times, he resigned on March 3, 1923 to move to the US Senate .
Again, Greene was confirmed in office in 1928. In the Senate he was among other things chairman of the Committee on Enrolled Bills . After Greene's sudden death in December 1930, Frank C. Partridge was named his successor.
