Richard Walker Mallary (born February 21, 1929 in Springfield , Massachusetts , † September 27, 2011 in Brookfield , Vermont ) was an American politician . Between 1972 and 1975 he represented the state of Vermont in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Richard Mallary attended Bradford Academy in Vermont and then, until 1949, Dartmouth College in Hanover ( New Hampshire ). Between 1950 and 1970 he ran a farm in Fairlee , where he mainly produced milk. Between 1951 and 1953 he sat on the local council.

Politically, Mallary became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1961 and 1969 he was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives , and from 1966 to 1968 he was its president. Then belonged to the State Senate from 1969 to 1970 . From 1965 to 1967 he was chairman of the Vermont Legislature Council. In 1968 Mallary was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Miami Beach , where Richard Nixon was nominated as the party's presidential candidate. From 1962 to 1965 he was the curator and treasurer of Vermont state colleges. At the same time he held several administrative positions in the state government.

After the resignation of Congressman Robert Stafford , who moved to the US Senate , Mallary was elected his successor in the US House of Representatives in the by-election in 1971. After his victory in the regular elections of 1972, he was able to exercise his mandate in Congress between January 7, 1972 and January 3, 1975. In 1974 Mallary ran unsuccessfully for the US Senate. He was then from 1975 to 1977 vice president of a bank in his native Springfield. Between 1977 and 1980 he served as Secretary of Administration for the Vermont government. From 1980 to 1983 Mallary was vice president of the Central Vermont Public Service Corporation . He was then chairman of the board of a heating company (1984–1985) and from 1986 to 1994 president of a power generation company. Between 1999 and 2003 Mallary sat again as a member of the House of Representatives from Vermont; from January to June 2003 he was the State Tax Commissioner. Most recently he lived in Charlotte , a small town in Chittenden County .
