Asa Lyon (born December 31, 1763 in Pomfret , Windham County , Colony of Connecticut , † April 4, 1841 in South Hero , Vermont ) was an American politician . Between 1815 and 1817 he represented the fourth constituency of the state of Vermont in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Asa Lyon attended the public schools of his homeland and then until 1790 the Dartmouth College in Hanover ( New Hampshire ). He then studied theology and was established in 1792 as pastor of the Congregational Church in Sunderland ( Massachusetts ordained). Two years later he moved to South Hero, Vermont, and studied law. Between 1802 and 1840 Lyon was pastor of South Hero in addition to his political activities.

Politically, Lyon was a member of the Federalist Party . Between 1799 and 1814 he was a member of the Vermont House of Representatives several times, with interruptions . In 1808 he was a State Councilor there. From 1805 to 1809 and again from 1813 to 1814 he served as the presiding judge in the Grand Isle County District Court . In the congressional elections of 1814, Lyon in the fourth district of Vermont was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC . There he took over from Charles Rich on March 4, 1815 . Until March 3, 1817 he could only complete one legislative period in Congress .

After his time in Congress, Asa Lyon retired from politics. He continued to serve as a pastor in South Hero. He died there in April 1841.
