IFK Östersund is a Swedish sports club from Östersund . The club is best known for its soccer team , which played a total of eleven seasons in the second division between 1953 and 1970 .
history
IFK Östersund was founded in 1906 as a local branch of the Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna . In 1949, the club's soccer team rose to the third division, where they soon established themselves in the top division. After the runner-up behind Västerås SK in 1952 , they rose the following year due to a league reform - the number of second division relays was increased - as fourth in the table for the first time in the second division. In Division 2 Norrland , the team initially placed in the middle, before relegating after three seasons together with Sandvikens AIK and Sollefteå GIF .
Without defeat in the course of the season, IFK Östersund managed to get promoted again in 1957 and held the class with one point ahead of relegated Gefle IF in the subsequent season. 1959 were three points missing from leaders IFK Luleå to participate in the promotion round to Allsvenskan . The team did not build on this success and again missed relegation in 1961. As second in the table behind Bollnäs GIF failed to rise again, which took place the following year. After three seasons, however, the team was relegated again and established in the third level in the front area. In 1969 the club rose again to the second division, but ended the 1970 season together with IFK Härnösand and Essviks AIF on a relegation zone.
The team of IFK Östersund fluctuated in the third division in their performances. Behind Gefle IF, Skellefteå AIK and IF Friska Viljor , the club finished last in the promotion round and thus missed the return to the second division. Since the new club took over the starting place of Ope IF in the third class Division 2 Norrland , IFK Östersund kept 1997 the starting place in the fourth class Division 3 Mellersta Norrland .
After a midfield position in the first year after the merger, IFK Östersund rose to the fifth division in the following year. There the team established itself in the front of the league, the recovery succeeded in 2001 when with 20 wins from 22 season games and 124 goals scored, the league was dominated without a season defeat in front of local rivals Ope IF. The strength continued in the following season and with six points on the second place occupied by IFK Sundsvall , the club marched into the third division.
