IFK Sundsvall , officially Idrottsföreningen Kamraterna Sundsvall (German: Sportverein Die Kameraden Sundsvall ) is a Swedish football club from the port city of Sundsvall . The men's team played for several years in the Allsvenskan , the top division in Swedish football.

IFK Sundsvall was founded in 1895. For a long time the team only played in the lower classes of the Swedish league pyramid. In 1971, the club succeeded for the first time in promotion to the second division . With a gap of two points to a relegation zone, the team was able to keep the class in their first second division year. In the second year, the team played with the front and took third place in the table behind promoted Brynäs IF and local rivals GIF Sundsvall . This position was also achieved in the following season, before the 1975 second division championship and the associated promotion to the Allsvenskan was won.
As a promoted IFK Sundsvall fought against relegation, which was avoided with a twelfth place in the table. In the second season in the first division, however, the team fought in vain and with 20 points at the end of the season, the club had two points behind Örebro SK , who finished in twelfth place.
In the second division IFK Sundsvall fought a duel with IK Brage , which the team from Sundsvall won in the end and managed the direct return to the Swedish House of Lords with a point ahead. This time, the ninth place in the table succeeded when it was only three points ahead of the best relegated AIK Solna . The second year in the first division was also more successful than at the first attempt: Seventh place in the final accounts is the best result of the club in its first division history to date. In the 1981 season , the team was only second to last and said goodbye again to the First division football.
In the second division only fourth place jumped out, six points behind the first two places broke the dream of direct promotion early. 1984 finished IFK Sundsvall after a tight season - between sixth and twelfth place was only two points difference - a relegation place. Instead of returning to the House of Lords, the club had to compete in the third division from now on.
In the third division IFK Sundsvall were champions right away, but failed with a 0-0 draw and a 0-2 home defeat in the promotion games to Karlskrona AIF . The club survived the restructuring of the league system as runner-up and thus remained third-rate. Two years later, however, the team only occupied one relegation place. The fourth division lasted only one season, however, the team was first fourth division champions with only one defeat and a year later with two season defeats third division champions.
After a year in midfield, 1992 achieved first place in the Varserien and the associated qualification for Kvalsvenskan , the promotion games to Allsvenskan. There they were only bottom of the table and in the subsequent play-off round IFK failed clearly with 0: 3 and 1: 6 defeats at Helsingborgs IF . In the next season, however, the crash followed and as penultimate it went again to the third division. Here the team escaped the total fiasco of marching through to the fourth division only thanks to the better goal difference. In the following season, the club played again with the front and was runner-up. In the subsequent promotion games IK Sirius was too strong and prevailed after a 0-1 win at Sundsvall with a 1-1 draw in front of their own audience.
1997 IFK Sundsvall again occupied only one relegation place. In the fourth division, the team played with the front in the following years, but it was not until 2002 that they qualified for the relegation games with the runner-up title. There, however, IFK failed after a 0-0 draw and a 0-1 defeat at Kiruna FF . In 2005, the team survived a reform of the league system by taking fourth place and surviving the subsequent qualifying round without losing points. There she stayed until she was relegated to fifth division at the end of the 2010 season.
