Gammelstads IF was founded in April 1927. The football team played for a long time under class, after advancing to fourth class at the end of the 1964 season they made the leap to the third division in 1968. There she immediately established herself in the top division and in 1971, as the season winner of Division 3 Norra Norrland, only missed qualification for the second division in the promotion round, when she finished last behind Gefle IF , Hägglunds IoFK and IFK Sundsvall without winning a point . Also in the following two seasons, the club missed the return to the second division as a season winner in the promotion games, when Jönköpings Södra IF and Grimsås IF prevailed. After a second place in the 1983 season behind Skellefteå AIK , the club's first team split off and merged with Notvikens IK to form Luleå FF . The basketball team is active as Gammelstads BBK and took part in the Korać Cup in the 1970s . For the Swedish first professional league, Svenska basketligan , founded in 1992, the team has not yet qualified.
