In the following years, the team fell into the fifth division.

At the end of the 1961 season, IFK Västerås returned to the third division. After several third places in Division 3 Norra Svealand , the team rose in 1968 as a season winner in the second division, but missed relegation. In the following years she stayed in the front area of the league without being able to intervene in the promotion race. 1977 succeeded again the relay win in Division 3 Norra Svealand , in the subsequent play-off round, the club prevailed without defeat before Kramfors-Alliansen , Ope IF and Gammelstads IF . Initially, the team played in the second division against relegation and occupied the last non-relegation place in the first two years. In 1981 she had to compete in the relegation, but was able to prevail. After the fifth place was occupied in 1984 and 1986, the club had to relegate again in 1987.

IFK Västerås sat down in the midfield of the third division Västra Svealand . In 1995 the club was second behind Hertzöga BK and qualified for the promotion round. After he had prevailed in the first round against Tyresö FF , he failed in the second round to IK Sirius . The team could not confirm the success and slipped into the lower regions of the table. In 1998 she entered the relegation, but was able to manage relegation. In the 2000 season, only two victories of the season get, so that the club as bottom of the table was relegated to fourth division before it was passed through to fifth division.
