The Eskilstuna City Fotbollklub is a Swedish football club from the central Swedish city of Eskilstuna . The club played one season in the Allsvenskan .

history

First division once

The club was founded on November 1, 1907 under the name Idrottsklubben City . When Allsvenskan was founded in 1924, qualification for the Swedish House of Lords was missed, so that the club got into the unofficial second division. There the team was the season winner in central Sweden and thus qualified for the promotion games in which Westermalms IF could be defeated with two wins. In the Allsvenskan, however, only managed one win of the season and as bottom of the table with only six points, the team was relegated directly.

Years in the second tier

In the second division succeeded again the relay win, in the promotion games, however, the club failed after two defeats at Djurgårdens IF and missed direct promotion . A year the team was only third, but was able to qualify for the now officially introduced, only two seasons of the second division . There they played in the northern relay and could just keep the class with a point ahead of relegated Djurgårdens IF and IFK Stockholm . After being able to avoid relegation again in the following season as third from bottom, the club ended the season level on points with Westermalms IF in 1931, but because of the poorer goal quotient they ended up on the penultimate rank and rose to the third division.

As the season winner, IK City succeeded in being promoted immediately again, but had to relegate back to the third division as bottom of the table together with Westermalms IF four points behind the last non-relegation place occupied by BK Derby .

Establishment in the third class

From 1933 IK City played again in the third division. There the team was able to establish itself in the front part of the table of the southern season in central Sweden, but initially did not play seriously for the promotion. In 1936 the runner-up title succeeded, but at the end of the season promoted IF Rune had five points ahead of the club from Eskilstuna. It was not until 1941 that the team was able to dominate the league and moved into the promotion games as a season winner. There the team defeated the champions of the central Swedish northern season Västerås SK and celebrated their return to the second division. However, the club missed relegation due to the poorer goal difference compared to the equal points teams from IFK Västerås and Åtvidabergs FF and was relegated directly.

Once again, as third in the table, the direct return was missed. In 1944 the team won the relay in the promotion games against Surahammars IF : in the first leg they lost 7-1, but the second leg on their home ground also ended with a 3-1 defeat. After a runner-up, the team was again the season winner two years later and this time competed against Enköpings SK in the promotion round. Since both teams each won their home games, a playoff was necessary in which IK City lost 2-0 and again missed promotion.

After the end of the 1946/47 season, the third division was reformed and, from 17 seasons to date, was merged into four different regional groups. As runner-up, IK City therefore had to fight to stay in the league, but prevailed in the relegation with a 2-0 win in the decider against Hagalunds IS and qualified for the new third division. There was only seventh place, the club's worst result in the third division until then. In the following season, the club was able to dominate the season and won the season with only one defeat and returned to the second division after seven years.

Back in the second division

In the 1949/50 season, the team was third in the table in the second division and ended up just four points behind second division champions Örebro SK . In the following years, places in midfield get, with the club in 1952 only one point ahead of the relegated Sandvikens AIK . A year later, the team played for the return to Allsvenskan. At the end of the season, the team was tied with Sandvikens IF , but had a goal difference of six goals and was only runner-up.

However, IK City could not build on the success and found itself in a relegation battle in 1953/54. At the end of the season, sixth place in the table jumped out with one point ahead of relegated Västerås IK . In the following two seasons, the team belonged again to the front half of the table, but in 1957 only the third from last place was occupied and the club had to start again in the third division.

In Division 3 Östra Svealand , IK City was instant champion in a 1957/58 season that was extended to the calendar year due to the change in the seasonal rhythm and returned directly to the second division. Here the team was fourth in the table in the return season. Two years later, the club was again only third from bottom and had to leave the second division. The direct resurgence was followed as the penultimate with only ten points, the immediate relegation to the third division.

Third division again

With eight points behind master Södertälje SK , IK City missed the renewed direct rise in 1964. In the following years, the team was always able to place itself in the front part of the table, but without being able to play for promotion. It was not until 1969 that Finspångs AIK had a duel for promotion, which, thanks to the better goal difference, was in favor of the team from Eskilstuna.

As a knocked-down bottom of the table - seven points were missing from a non-relegation place - IK City missed relegation. The direct resurgence was also clearly missed: as fourth in the table, 17 points were missing from the season winner BK Derby. In the following years it got tighter again, but three points were missing in 1972 and four in 1973. Then things went downhill with the club and in 1975 only one relegation place was occupied, so that the club drifted into fourth division for the first time.

Between league three and five

In 1980 IK City managed to return to the third division, but had to be relegated directly as bottom of the table. After a sixth place succeeded as second in the table in 1983, the renewed promotion to the third division. Again, the club missed an establishment in the third division and had to leave this again after only one season down. After a reform of the league system, the team only started fifth class at times. It was not until 1988 that the club was able to rise from the fifth division.

Back to the third division

As a climber from the fifth division, IK City knew how to surprise in the fourth division in 1989 and at the end of the season was able to celebrate as fourth division champion and thus promoted to the third division 2. The direct relegation was followed by immediate promotion to the third division. Here the team was able to establish itself in the middle of the league in the following years.

New name and division four again

In 2000 the club was renamed from IK City to its current name, Eskilstuna City FK . In 2004 the club was in danger of relegation. At the end of the year, the team had to compete in the relegation because of the poorer goal difference compared to Västerås IK. There, however, Kungsörs SK was defeated by a 2-0 away win and a 1-1 draw in the second leg. In 2005 the Swedish league system was reformed again: as tenth in the table, the club narrowly escaped relegation to the then fifth-rate Division 3, but remained in the downgraded Division 2 and therefore only played fourth-rate. There succeeded in 2006 with 15 points behind the season winner Gröndals IK in fifth place, a year later the club missed as a runner-up behind Arameiska-Syrianska Norsborg, the promotion to the third division.

Short return to the third division

In 2011, Södra Svealand returned to the third division as champions of fourth division Division 2. In this, the club finished sixth in the 2012 season, before ending the following season in last place. Since then, the club has been back in Division 2. In 2016 it was decided that the first team would join AFC United, which then changed its name to AFC Eskilstuna , and since then the club has focused on youth work.
