history

Finspångs AIK was founded on June 8, 1937. The club was formed from a merger of Finspångs IK , founded in 1914 , which in turn went back to Finspångs IF , which was founded in 1907 , and Finspångs Arbetares Idrottsförening , which was founded in 1923 . With the athlete Artur Svensson , the former provided a medalist at the 1924 Summer Olympics . In the 1930s, bandy and soccer moved to the fore among the sports of the two clubs, with FAIF in bandy and FIF in soccer being the more successful team.

In 1939, the FAIK footballers rose to the second highest division for the first time, where the team only held the class because of the better goal quotient compared to the tied IK Tord . After two sixth places in the following seasons, the club won the eastern season in front of Åtvidabergs FF and Nyköpings AIK , in the subsequent games for promotion he met IK Brage . After a 0-1 defeat and a 2-0 win, the decision about promotion was made in a third game; there the team had to admit defeat with a 9-0 defeat. The slump took place in the next season, together with Västerås SK she ended the season in the summer of 1944 on a relegation zone.

In 1959 the footballers returned to the second division one more time, but were relegated straight away. After rising again in the 1966 season, the stay in the second-highest division lasted two seasons. In the third division, the team placed second or third in the table. In 1972 she was the season winner, but failed after three defeats behind Degerfors IF , Grimsås IF and IFK Stockholm as bottom group. In the following year, after another relay victory behind IFK Falköping , Emmaboda IS and again IFK Stockholm, it was only enough to finish last. From the mid-1970s, the club slipped into the middle of the table before relegated to the fourth division in late 1979. After relegation to the fifth division ten years later, the team said goodbye to higher-class football, apart from a brief flying visit to the fourth division in the second half of the 1990s.

In 1941 the bandy team played one season in the highest Swedish bandy division, but rose after only one win of the season against IFK Växjö together with the competitor.
