Finspång [ finspɔŋ ] is a village ( tätort ) in the Swedish province County Östergötland and the historic province of Östergötland .
history
Today's main town in Finspång became more important in 1580 when King John III. commissioned the Dutchman Wellam de Wijk to produce cannons and associated bullets for the Swedish military in the village . This production in Finspångs styckebruk was continued for the next 300 years under the direction of the Belgian noble family de Geer. Even today the steel industry is the most important branch of the economy in Finspång.
Louis de Geer (1622–1695) had Finspång Castle built in 1668 on an elongated island in the Finspångå River . The castle has an orangery and a garden house.
Despite its economic importance Finspång never received the town charter , however, was the 17th century capital of the seven parishes (socks) comprehensive Harde Finspånga läns Härad, the neighboring communities, the territory of the present municipality of Finspång and parts Motala and Norrköping united. It was not until 1942 that the town was detached as a minority town (köping) from the rural community of Risinge landskommun, which had existed since 1863 (after the Risinge kyrka church to the east just outside Finspång ).
traffic
Finspång was already connected to the port in Norrköping in 1854 due to its industry via a ship connection across Lake Glan and a horse-drawn tram , the Fiskeby Järnväg . The ship connection and the railway line belonged to Fiskeby jernvägs- och ångbåts AB . From 1873 the steamship Glan was used.
