Finspång Castle ( Swedish Finspångs slott ) is a castle complex in the Swedish province of Östergötland County . It is located on an elongated peninsula in the Finspångå river in the Finspång municipality of the same name . It has been registered as Byggnadsminne since 1960 .

Location and history

The main buildings of the castle were built between 1668 and 1685 by the Dutchman Louis De Geer according to plans by his compatriot Adriaan Dortsman . Most of the stucco work was done by Carlo Carove . Up until the end of the 18th century, the De Geers descendants, especially his grandchildren of the same name, expanded the building with wing extensions and additional buildings. Finspång Castle is today a typical country castle from the Carolinian times.

The castle chapel in the northern part of the complex and the castle park belong to the castle. The latter was laid out in several stages between 1690 and 1820, and from 1790 it was transformed into an English landscape garden. In the park there is an aurora temple from 1791, a summer house from 1821 and an orangery .

Today the castle is owned by Siemens . The buildings are not open to the public, but the palace gardens can be freely entered.
