Finspångs styckebruk was a Swedish arms manufacturer in Finspång .

The company was founded in the middle of the 16th century as an iron foundry in the historic province of Östergötland and started with a limited production of cannons in 1580. From the middle of the 17th to the middle of the 19th century, Finspångs styckebruk was the largest Swedish exporter of cannons. However, since the company limited itself to the casting and processing of pig iron, its guns were not competitive in the long run against the cast steel guns from Bofors and the forged guns from Krupp . In 1900 the company was bought by an English consortium (Beardmore / Olsson) and in 1902 it was divided into three parts. The artillery division was continued as 'Nordiska Artilleriverkstädera'. In 1903 the Beardmore / Olsson consortium sold a large part of its shares in Bofors. After a while, they took control of the entire company and closed the factory in 1910–1911.

Products

Finspångs styckebruk developed a semi-automatic 57 mm cannon for defense against torpedo boats in the 1920s , which served as the starting point for the development of the 40 mm Bofors gun .
