life and career

Bertil Andersson studied biochemistry at Umeå University in Sweden , and completed his habilitation in 1978 and 1982 at Lund University . This was followed by a professorship at Stockholm University , where he subsequently became head of the Department of Biochemistry and Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Sciences . He then took over the post of Provost at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore .

Act

Bertil Andersson is a plant biochemist and has written over 300 papers in the fields of photosynthesis research, biomembranes , protein purification, and the effects of light stress on plants. In a key piece of work, he provided evidence of the spatial separation of the two photosynthesis systems in oxygenic photosynthesis , which is taken into account in all textbooks on the biochemistry and physiology of plants . Bertil Andersson was also the first scientist to identify two proteins that are involved in the oxidation of photosynthetic water. Bertil Andersson was President of the Chemistry Section of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences from 1998 to 2003 and a member of the Nobel Foundation Board from 2000 to 2006, and subsequently a member and chairman of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry and a member of the Nobel Trustees Board .
