European Science Foundation
The European Science Foundation (English: European Science Foundation ; French: Fondation européenne de la science, formerly EURESCO, European Research Conferences ), ESF for short , is an international organization and independent foundation for the promotion of scientific research. It was founded in 1974 and is based in Strasbourg .
The foundation currently has 72 research institutions from 30 European countries as member organizations; amongst other things:
- From Germany these are the German Research Foundation , the Max Planck Society , the Helmholtz Association and the Union of German Academies of Sciences .
- From Austria the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research .
- From Switzerland, the Council of the Swiss Scientific Academies and the Swiss National Fund for the Promotion of Scientific Research .
The foundation promotes and coordinates joint research projects and promotes the interests of science on a European level. It awarded the European Latsis Prize annually from 1999 to 2012 . The science award is endowed with 100,000 Swiss francs and is advertised annually in changing fields of science.
