Surahammars IF is a Swedish sports club from Surahammar . The club's ice hockey department played in the top Swedish league for several years. The now defunct football team of the club played temporarily second class and took part in the promotion round to Allsvenskan in 1946 .

history

Surahammars IF was formed on June 4, 1914, when the Association of Sportsmen, which had existed loosely since 1911, gave itself a statute. Athletics , football and skiing in particular were at the forefront of club activities at the beginning, before cycling and swimming were later also part of the program. The club has been a pure ice hockey club since 1993.

ice Hockey

The ice hockey team evolved from the club's bandy team . When this was relegated to the third division in 1937, it was decided to take up ice hockey and was registered by Svenska Ishockeyförbundet in November of that year . After the team had initially played lower class, they rose to the first division for the first time in 1948. Here she had no chance and immediately dismounted. In 1952 they were promoted again, this time they held two seasons in the top division. By the end of the decade, she wavered between first and second division, before it lasted after relegation to renewed promotion until 1969. After the direct relegation, the promotion succeeded again, since 1972 the team has played lower class. Today the team plays in the third class hockeyettan .

Soccer

The football team of Surahammars IF played second class for the first time in 1926. In the following years she established herself in her second division season and placed herself several times in the front table area. In the season 1939/40 she reached the season runner-up behind IFK Norrköping the best result in the club's history to date, but was three points behind the season winner. Two years later the team repeated the result, this time IF Elfsborg had a five point lead. The success was followed by the crash and after 17 years in the league, the club rose in the following season together with Avesta AIK in the third division.

The relegated won his third division season and then prevailed in the promotion round against IF Vesta and IK City . In the second division, the team narrowly missed the march into the Allsvenskan, as runner-up behind Djurgårdens IF , four points were missing from the relay victory. This was won in the season 1945/46, in the promotion games against Örebro SK after a 3-0 home win and a 0-2 away defeat, a playoff was necessary, but the competitor won it. As third in the table behind Ludvika FFI and Sandvikens AIK , the club survived a league reform in the subsequent season and in 1950 again reached second place behind Örebro SK. Again a sudden crash followed, with nine points the club occupied last place in the table in the following season and was passed through to fourth division two years later.

The crash of Surahammars IF was followed by a rapid ascent - after the direct rise, the season winner immediately returned to the second division. There the team played against relegation, which they narrowly prevented twice. After conceding 96 goals in the 1957/58 season, the club rose again from the second highest division and again missed relegation at the third level. If the return to the third division was briefly achieved for the 1964 season, the club disappeared from higher-class football a short time later.
