The club was founded in the 1940s as the ice hockey department of the Mariestad CK . In 1967, the split from the parent club followed, with the split-off pure ice hockey club being called Mariestad BoIS from then on . It was only over 30 years later, in 1998, that the club was renamed Mariestad BoIS HC . In April 2008 the club rose to the Allsvenskan after defeating the Väsby IK in front of 2523 spectators in the Katrinhallen.

In the following season, the team took only the last place in the Allsvenskan and had to compete in the Kvalserien. There it could not prevail and the club was relegated to Division 1. Since then he has been playing in this third-class league, which is now called hockeyettan .
