The first success in the club's history came at the end of the 1950s, when the ice hockey team, founded in 1939, competed in the top Swedish league for the first time in 1957. Until 1962, the team played in Division 1 Norra , before they missed relegation in the relegation round. After they had achieved immediate promotion, the team moved as a promoted team for the first time in the championship round. With a win and a draw, however, she finished penultimate before Skellefteå AIK . In the following season, the club had to start again in the relegation round, in which he occupied a relegation place behind IFK Umeå and Wifsta / Östrand-Fagerviks IF . Then the team survived in the second division. Between 1983 and 1991 she formed a syndicate with Gävle Godtemplares IK , which appeared as Strömsbro / Gävle HF 83 . After their dissolution, the club started in amateur hockey.

During the 1980s, the Strömsbro IF women's football team established itself in top-class football. Upon introduction of the Damallsvenskan for playing time in 1988 , the club of the founding members belonged and reached the seventh place in the table. If the team reached the last non-relegation place in the following season before Trollhättans IF and IK Brage , they rose at the end of the 1990 season as bottom of the table together with Mallbackens IF in the second division. In the following years, the team slipped into the lower class league area. The men's team of the club did not appear nationally and played at most on the fourth level.
